Hi,

I'll be working on a computer coming up next week. The problem is very strange. The CPU is a 2.0 Intel P4 (400fsb), Intel motherboard based on the 845 chipset (I can't rememerb exactly which one, I don't have the computer in front of me as the boss' son has it away at college). 512MB Crucial Ram, Maxtor 80GB HD, Geforce 2GTS, onboard sound AND Soundblaster Live (older version). Anyway, to the problem. I had the chance to actually visit the computer and experience the problem. I'm only going to have the computer for a couple days before it gets taken back so I was hoping to get ahead start on the problem. Perhaps somebody has experienced the same thing (but I doubt it..). So, now to the problem, basically what happens is when you're playing an MP3 or anysort of sound for that matter I think (It happened when watching a DVD I'm pretty sure) and you do any sort of CPU power (open Word, etc.) and it also randomly happens this weird distortion sound/studdering will occur. It is the most annoying and distracting thing. At the time, it was happening with the integraded sound on the motherboard. So, I figured I could at least fix the problem when I went down by just putting in a Soundblaster Live card. I brought one down, and installed it. The problem was not fixed, but it happened a little less frequently I think. I can't remember if I disabled the onboard sound or not....

The problem is still occuring, even with the Soundblaster Live card, but it is at least semi-bearable. I need to figure out what needs replacing, because I'm guessing it is not software related. Reinstalling Windows XP (which is the operating system, by the way) is simple, and I'll no problems doing that. But, I'm sure that is not the problem, in which case I'll have some debugging to do over Thanksgiving. Has anybody had any problem remotely related to this?

By the way, the system is NOT OCed.

Any help is always appreciated,

Eric
