Whenever he takes a turn at a fairly high speed, a sound comes out of the drivers side front side that sounds like something is rubbing. The weird thing is that if he takes the turn at a slower speed no sound comes out. It only happens when he's going pretty fast.

We have taken the tire off of his car and we didn't see anything wrong. Is there anything else that we can check? Something specific to look for? We are at whits end here, is there anything else you guys can think of to check?

The car is a 2001 Cavalier Z24, btw.

Get it checked out soon. If it only makes that noise when stress is placed on it, it will surely break under the same circumstances, going fast, on a turn. Bad time for a wheel to fall off.

I have a 2002 Z24 Cavalier and I had this exact same problem.

They found out that there was transmission fluid inside of the power steering. Someone filled it with the wrong fluid. Drain the power steering fluid container and fill with actual power steering fluid. You would think that it wouldn't matter, but my mechanic replaced the fluids for me and now its stopped making the rubbing noise (THANK GOD).

If that isn't the problem, then it is the CV boot or joint.

EDIT: The rubbing I experieced was weird. I would feel it in my feet when it occured, not to mention it was quite loud :D

From what I've looked up so far, we should be able to simply look at the CV Boot/Joints and see if there is anything wrong with them, correct? If we look at them and see nothing visually wrong, how would I go about checking the bearings? Is that something that we would be able to replace ourselves?

the CV boot might have a rip in it, or it may not. i've had them go bad without a leak (bad rebuilds)...

wheel bearings can be tested by jacking it up and checking for up and down play in the wheel, or roughness.

It could be one of the belts in the engine. My car made an odd squealing noise when I was turning the wheel, or when I'd turn on the AC, but only after a fresh startup. Within a few minutes, it stopped completely.
I took it in for servicing (the brake pads were also getting a bit thin) and they replaced all my belts. I saw them - they were old and all cracked up. After, I believe it was, the 3 belts were replaced, the noise stopped.
Maybe that's it?

It could be the belt on the power steering pump slipping. That sounds like a loud warbling squeal when you turn, so if its not the cv boot or joint, thats another easy place to look.
