Weird Slowdowns on geforce2 gts

In any D3D game, if there is anything like smoke, the game slows down a whole lot. This happens in every d3d game i have. I cant figure out what the problem is. I got the newest drivers for my video card and the newest drivers for my motherboard. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

I am not familiar with Windows XP Pro, but if you GTS is running stock 200/333 it could use a little help. At 1024 x 768 32-bit color FSAA turned on it's gonna struggle, flames and smoke are particulary tough on it. Try overlocking to 220/365 or so. Use the 23.11 driver and flash the bios with the Nvidia reference bios for the GTS from here http://www.x-bios.3dgames.ru/. It will help to raise your fsb speed to 150MHz, it looks like your system can handle it, if you don't want to overclock the cpu lower your multiplier. Make sure you use NVmax to enable side-band addressing and fastwrites, every little bit helps.

I am not sure, just flash the bios using NVflash and benchtest at the same settings. You can simply flash back or try several bios to see which is faster.

Hmmm....I've not been able to get my memory settings over 360, maybe a bios flash is in order. Thanks guys, I'm going to try that.

Im not into overclocking becuase of past experiences with it... Anyway, I got the new bios and I never use FSAA because I know it pretty much cuts the framerate in half. I got NVMax and turned fastwrites and side band addressing on but it made no difference. I dont get why only Smoke in d3d games would cause slowdown. In AvP2, I can have 10 marines on screen at once and there isnt slowdown but as soon as someone kills an alien and smoke starts coming out of it, my framerate drops by 10 at least. I tried Max Payne and the same thing happens in that game too. Its really, really annoying.
