Weird slowdown of 1 gig nic only doing 100 and intermittantly losing connections

My computer started to exhibit slow network speeds and intermittant loss of network on occasion, starting today acting up all morning. I rebooted, twice. I replace patch cables from the compture to the wall, and from the patch panel to the switch. no change. The 1 gig onboard adapter still shows 100mb and it is set to Auto. Thought it might be a driver issue, but all the computers have the same hardware and driver version. Thought it was hardware related issue. I swaped my HD with an identicle one of the same computer type and had the same issue with the different HD. When I put my computer at the station of the other computer, it now works fine at 1gb. So, it must be an internal wiring thing right?

So I used a remote tester to test from the patch panel to the wall, and all 8 lights worked as did the ground, so no missing or missmatched wiring.

What causes a 1gig connection to only negotiate at 100 if the cable is wired correctly? As far as I know, nothing has changed and the installation was done 6 yrs ago and works fine everywhere else? How to fix? I could just reterminate but would that cause this to happen if all lights are showing up in the first place?

Re-terminate both ends of the wall cable (to the patch panel and to the wall plate by the computer). Start with the wall plate end. I've seen several cases where the wires worked loose over years of use, particularly if the patch cable is unplugged frequently or if the patch panel is in a place where it can be bumped or kicked. You might also want to try a new wall plate plug in case it was damaged (by the same bumping/kicking). It's also possible that something failed in the wiring inside the wall, but it's easier to try re-punching the wire ends first.

Well Iwas about to do that, butthen I had an idea and put a good working computer onto the port that I was at, and gues what, the same thing happened, and it was using different terminating points., so I had to figure out it was just the port onthe switch only. When I used a different port, all was fine.

i have a switch where some of the ports can't maintain a gigE connection, as well.

Hard code the nic to 100 and see if that works ok. Otherwise that port needs to be checked or reprogrammed if possible
