Weird slow HD transfer with 2 files simultaneously.

If I copy one file at a time, each file about 700mb would take approximately 20 seconds, but if I copy 2 files at the same time then each file would take 8 minutes each simultaneously.

So 2 files @ 700mb each transfer at 8 minutes instead of 1 700mb file being sent and getting 20 seconds?

Didn't know double transfer was that stressful

Thats why this is so weird. And I'm even using dual core, but file transfers are usually HD limited and not CPU bound anyway. By the way, I did NOT install the Nvidia IDE drivers.

Are these ide OR sata? just had to ask.

if they're ide are yousharing the same cable? That could probably bottleneck (i know you're probably not using IDE)

If they're SATA, wow, never knew that could happen man sorry that just sounds weird!

I'm transfering the files from an IDE Seagate to a SATA WD, too lazy to update sig.

That will do it man. I think you're using a slowe cable. Are you sure it's an ultra DMA Cable? It should have very fine line dents in it if so.

Also, I think that the transfer from the IDE > Sata will be slower than the Sata > IDE but that's my opinion

If you had 2 ide's I dont think this would be happening. Don't know bud sorry

You know what, I think you're on to something here. I just tried transfering files from SATA to SATA and it was normal.

Change the cable, that's the best i can do.

if you're not using a DMa Cable you're sacrificing speed so try finding one, it should be a really fine looking cable. The ata's have much more spaced lines in the cable if you know what i'm saying.

I know exactly what you're saying. I'm using the cables that came with my DFI Ultra-D mobo which I assume is Ultra DMA. Maybe I should try a different one. Thanks for your help.

That should be ultradma, sometimes they package both different types just try using the finest cable possible.

Also the difference in speed may be due to the requirement of going through the IDE bus to the SATA bus which could cause a bottleneck but i'm not sure how significant.

Best of luck troubleshooting man
