Happens to me nearly every time I go to sleep.

I welcome the twitch now. To me it means I will, in fact, be able to sleep. No twitch usually means no sleep.

What, where you're about to slip into peaceful slumber, when it suddenly feels like you fell out of bed or something and your whole body tenses suddenly, waking you up?

That's pretty common, actually.

You described it very well. Do you know if it has an actual diagnosis or name?

Cool link. That describes exactly what happens to me every once in a while. I've gotten it mostly when I'm really tired and decide to take a nap in the middle of the day.
