ok guysk, i'm having the weirdest issue with my computer.
Currently, I boot it up, it goes through checkup fine, detects all hds etc, and goes to the windows xp loading screen.
After it finishes the loading screen, the screen goes black and STAYS black.
Sometimes I get the option to do chkdisk, and if I run it, it runs fine, the after it's done it gives the same black screen.

Now the weird thing is this:
I can boot into safemode just fine, everything displays correctly.
Last week I had the same issue, after a few reboots etc it started working fine again. Now it wont work.

My computer:
MSI NEO2 mobo with P4 2.5ghz CPU
Radeon 9600 graphics card

Any help is appreciated.
thanks

when you are in safe mode,
START
RUN
msconfig

go to the startup tab.
untick all progs that startup that arent' necessary to run the system.
ie, antivirus/office/firewall (make sure your system is disconnected from the intercrap)/yoots/dvd players etc etc
See if that does anything when you restart.
post back with the result either way

What didn't work?
The SAFE MODE, Msconfig or the startup tab?

If you did as I suggested above, and disabling the sw didn't work, then it might be time to reinstall some drivers.
BUT, before we do this, can you tell us if you added anything/installed anything that might have had something to do with this problem?

When you restart the system, press F8 as if you want to go into SAFE, but instead of choosing safe, choose VGA mode.

No, video mode doesn't boot up.
I'm guessing it's the video driver because I've had this type of problem before. I reinstalled drivers before, and it usually fixed the problems. So, I downloaded the latest catalyst and booted into safe mode w/o command or networking. I run the exe for setup and get this message after extraction:

INF error video driver not found. Then it says:

Try to setup your video card with a standard VGA driver before continuing setup.

Not sure now. I've hit a dead end. I think it might be safemode that's interfering with Windows's recognition of the previously installed driver. Any thoughts?

can you boot into recovery console.

stop the vid driver from loading up, and stop any service that might be related to the driver.
If it that is the problem, then you might be able to boot into win.

How can I stop the vid driver from loading? I know how to disable services, but didnt know how to stop the vid driver.
Also, dont forget that the computer boots into safemode just fine, it's just something strange with normal boot.
anymore suggestions?

In safe mode, the drivers aren't loaded (mostly anyway).

Can you try selective startup, where you press Y or N depending on what you want loaded up. This can be chosen from the F8 startup menu.
Re-the recovery console: if you list the services, then you can see which services are to do with the vid card by name - should be able to make an educated guess.

Ya, I disabled the ATI related services, but is that the same thing as disabling the driver?
Also, selective startup will selectively load options for normal windows load, or for safe mode?

When you disable the services, that isn't the same thing as disabling the driver. When drivers load, they may set up several threads and a couple of the 'programs' they use will show up in services.
If you are lucky, this would allow you to boot into win.

If not, you will have to selectively load up windows.
If you say NO to all options, it will be the equivalent of a safe SAFE MODE.
If you say yes to most options, and no to the ones that look like vid stuff, then, again, you may be lucky.
You might have to do this a few times before you recognise the order of some of the optional loading progs. Be ruthless. this is only temporary till you reboot.
