Weird sayings

Really, where do some sayings come from? Like this one:

"funny as all get out" --> I assume it's akin to "funny as all he!!"
but how do you substitute "he!!" with "get out"?

I guess it could have to do with how you're raised. For example, Southern people like to say "fixing to," as in the following sentence:

"I'm fixin' to go to the store," meaning "I'm getting ready to go to the store." The phrase "fixing to" has nothing to do with fixing anything, yet people still use it!

My real answer: I don't know. 😀😉

Love, Peace and Chicken Grease
Faster than a scalded cat

and my personal favorite that I never hear until I moved to Texas (I almost peed on myself)

Don't let the doorknob hit 'ya where the good Lord split 'ya.

British people say "I've got a lolly in my pocket for all of you" when they're pleased with a group. A teacher might say that to her students.

learned this one in 6th grade from my teacher.

"It don't make me no nevermind"

means

"I don't care"

one of the first things i'd learned in human geography was regarding to different conditions based on regions. over time slang just develops based on the population, due to cultural differences that may have developed there. always thought it was pretty interesting, especially since i've lived in a diverse area all my life. then i go somewhere less diverse and suddenly start hearing all these offensive terms that wouldn't be normally tolerated in my area floating around like candy.

from my professor:
<<
I did my graduate study in England and it took me nearly a year to get used to people asking me for a i love you (cigarette), or a gentleman in a bar saying that he would 'knock you up' tomorrow (stop by your apartment).

Being a Texan, I can admit to saying this phrase a lot... "Fixin' to" actually comes from "fitting to," which means to prepare to do something.

"I'm fitting to go to Mars." simply means that you're preparing to go to Mars. "Fixin'" is just a bastardization of that word. 😀
