Weird SATA HD Wire Connection Problem

I don't know if this is suppose to happen, but when I plugged my SATA cable into my new SATA HD (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822148107) it worked just fine. I had to re-arrange my HDs in my case so I unplugged the SATA cable, but when I unplugged it, the cable took the jumper/holder looking thing out of the HD leaving the pins sticking out of the HD. The jumper/holder looking thing is now stuck in the cable. Is this suppose to happen? Sorry if this is a dumb question, this is my first SATA drive and it shocked me.

No - it is not supposed to happen. It takes a steady hand and a good magnifying glass to put that holder back on the HDD pins. It only goes one way, and it a very frustrating exercise. I had it happen on a mobo port. The plastic aligner came off on the cable, and in order to get it back on, I had to open up the system and remove everything an, luckily I got it. I then applied a tad of glue to the base of the aligner to minimize the chance of it happening again. It can be fixed - a steady eye and a steady hand will work.

I can slide it back on and it works fine, but if I want to use another HD, I'll have to do what you said.

Another thing you learn to do is always grasp the sides of that adapter and hold with one hand while removing the SATA connector.
