Anyone that grew up in the 70s/80s play with and damage a Stretch Armstrong toy? What WAS that mysterious (potentially toxic??!!) goo that oozed out from his wounds???

Inquiring minds wanted to know (but Dad didn't have a clue and there was no internet forum then?) ;)

Good suggestion for google - searching now........anyone else have ideas/answers??

Toxic sludge, I think.. I had one of those when I was a kid, and after it got stuck in a drawer for a long time, somehow it got punctured and the goop leaked out. It crystallized. Weird.

Edit: Scratch that. It was "Slime(TM)" that crystallized; the Stretch Armstrong goop just formed a red puddle and hardened.

I don't know, but my Stretch met his match vs the 12" Darth Vader. He suffered a mortal wound from Vader's light saber.

Yeah - can't forget slime! I'll take the memory of the odor of that stuff to the grave with me!

Interestinglly enough concerning Stretch - I did find a recall article by THE ONION

Well I can definitely say it was not corn syrup.

I had a Stretch Armstrong and I bit into that sucker's arm once, breaking open his 'skin' and the liquid got into my mouth. Whatever kind of nuclear waste they put inside was bitter tasting stuff. It was a kind of clearish liquid. If it was corn syrup, they added something to make it bitter as hell. It was probably some kind of silicon/polymer crap.

the 90's ones were almost certainly corn syrup (got a friend's brother to taste it once), but i don't know about the older ones.

Huge quantities of Karo syrup were purchased from an A&P on 3rd Avenue and it was boiled down to get the proper viscosity.

Oh man totally forgot about those. I totally had one. I used to stretch it way beyond it's limits with friends and my dad was like "you're going to break it" and I'm like "it's made for that!". I did eventually cause some odd holes to show up and the stuff started to ooze out. I don't remember if we threw it out or what.
