Weird request, even for ATOT: Anyone here brew their own beer?

I'm looking to get into a very, very small scale personal brewing setup... basically, just a couple of gallons a month is all I'm looking for, I want something that can produce decent tasting brew at a fairly affordable price.

I'd like to keep the cost of all my needed parts to under $100, I've found some kits that fit into this range online, but was curious what the quality was really like.... if it is disgusting, I won't waste the money on it... I'd just like some creative control as far as flavoring and the such goes, and am curious if anyone has this as a hobby.

Can anyone help me out here?

We've got a homebrew store nearby and you can definately get in for under $100. All you need are the ingredients which usually run around 30-50 per batch, a carboy, and a large steel pot. Don't use anything aluminum as it seems to add a metalic taste to the bear.

Obviously, there's a little more too it, but if you have a store nearby they should be able to help you get started.

And you can trust the advice of someone about brewing when they can't spell beer correctly
