Does any one of you know WTF is a Dax?

I only know that it is related to DSx (DS3), voice communications and seems to be like a converter.

I'm not sure, but like I understood when my spoke of it. It is like a converter from normal voice to data or like a Mux but a software mux. I was confused by then.
