So weird question here, but it's a honeybaked ham so worth it, imho....

A vendor of ours sent us a honeybaked ham 3 days ago which should've only taken 1 day. As UPS is blundering our shipments every day the last week, it got stuck in shipping for 3 days. It never left its foil/bag/ice chest and was shipped with dry ice but when I opened it, there was no dry ice left.

The ham was still fairly cold (I'd say "fridge" cold on the bottom of it) and I know they're fully cooked, but don't want to tempt fate either. (My sister usually makes a prime rib for Christmas dinner so I ain't starvin for sure) ;)

I threw the ham in the fridge in case it's still ok to eat. Whadda ya think?

Can I have your stuff?

I probably wouldn't but that might just be upbringing. I think we toss food too quickly but how do you tell?

My landlord just brought me a HB ham. Win.

It's fine.

I see you have Favre as your profile pic. Are you in WI? If so, that ham has been sitting in a cold warehouse/truck for days. It never warmed up

My stuff?? (me, too, I always hear my mom's voice & then remember how often we ate day old pizza off the coffee table from the night before & never got sick in my bachelor days so who knows)

It's fine.

Not this wee, though I was last week. I LOL when I'm out there cuz everybody treats their garages like a big walk in freeze in the winter. (I guess cuz it really is....ha ha)

I'm in So Cal so it's been in the high 30's at night & probably never topped high 60's during the day but who knows where it's been. There was also cheese & stuff in there too & everybody immediately cracked into that stuff too & nobody's puked yet so....(shrug)

Ahhhhh..... got it! And, yes, the stuff I ate & did as a bachelor would surely kill me today! LOL

Well, I'll send the ham to you then & if you have a Walking Lib full set, in MS65 or better, I'll take it if you kick the bucket. ;)

It's fine.

It's cured and likely was at refrigeration temperatures.

I wonder if shipper warehouses are heated or not. Overnight it probably sat in the warehouse, if they arn't heated it's probably fine.

Personally I would not really chance the idea of shipping perishable food via regular courier. Grocery stores have stuff come in reefer trucks so the food is in it's proper climate during the whole process.

More than likely it was shipped on dry ice through either UPS or FedEx. Neither do anything to refrigerate packages. I ship hundreds of food item packages annually and have learned first hand to always include extra dry ice because UPS is likely to screw you from time to time. The local UPS distribution center isn't even air conditioned and we have had packages sit in 100F for days before they decided to deliver. We use temperature recording devices from time to time to see how products are handled in UPS/FedEx distribution so we have records for insurance claims.
