Weird question - CPU id change?

I've had this old K7S5A Pro MB with an Athlon CPU for a couple years. At various times I've run utilities that said it was either a 2200+ or a 2400+, forget which, I recall.

Today, after making a BIOS change from a gaming mag blew my graphics card (!), I'd reset my CMOS trying to get the system working.

But now, it thinks I have an Athlon 1500+. I downloaded a utility that identifies CPUs, and it says 1500+ too. Yikes!

Any idea what's going on? Is this something I need to configure? Is it possible it was mis-setup as a 2200+ before and is really a 1500+?

On that last question - it was set up by a small shop and I'm wondering if they could have made a 1500+ show up as a 2200+ until I reset the CMOS.

More than likely when you reset the CMOS, it changed the FSB and/or multiplier. Looks like it should be 133x13.5.

You raised some questions with that, like, when I reset the CMOS did I lose the current 'flash' version I had, and other settings?

I don't know what all got messed up, and I'm not sure if I should 'flash' it more current or add other updates, there are ones for USB 2.0, sound, vga - I added the vga one.

Also this is odd: the manual says the MB automatically detects the CPU and speed, but it has a parameter 'CPU speed'; however the values it cycles through are very limited and look like bus speeds not CPU speeds, 100/100, 100/133, 133/133, 166/133 are about the only options - even though the manual itself shows '700 MHz' in the picture. I see nowhere to change the multiplier.

So I'm at a loss still how to determine exactly what CPU I have (short of removing the fan and looking), whether the shop might have set it differently, how to fix this now...

Update: I changed the 'CPU Speed' from 100/100 to 133/133, and it says I have a 2200+.

Sheesh. How to tell what the CPU really is...

Can anyone clarify this cpu id behavior? Why the cpu id seems to change based on the speed settings in the BIOS, when the CPU should have one name?

That seemed to be a pretty common occurance with the Athlon XP, not entirely sure why though.
