WEIRD Q9450 Temps

My cousin just got a Q9450 but the temp seems off. No matter what HSF we use, the temps are the same!
Coretemp v98.1 (TJmax = 100C)
Room Ambient Temp = 25C

Intel OEM HSF (100% fan load)

if the temps don't vary slightly over time then you have a major problem. every cpu that I've ever had has varied (especially under load) by several degrees over time. you should be able to just watch core temp and see the temps change over time.

If that is the HORRIBLY SUCKY intel retail hsf that is about 2 inches high then it should have temps a lot higher than the other two btw. try real temp and verify that you're getting the same info. What os are you using?

OS = WinXP Pro SP2 32bit.

It runs fine, and 3dMark06 posts scores relative to it's speed (GPU/CPU). Games also play perfectly fine. It's just the temp sensors seem totally borked.

I have a Q6600 (B3) @ 3.2GHZ (1.343v), and I have better temps.

I haven't tried real-temp.

how about give speedfan a try. See what ya get. This definitely can't be right. I don't think you will get such exact numbers even with same heatsink in two different install. This is very strange indeed.

Try using RealTemp, the tjmax should be 95 not 100 for Q9450 processors. This is a noted issue with CoreTemp.

You can also edit the settings.ini file in coretemp to have a -10 offset of the tjmax temp.
