Trying to help a friend diagnose the cause of a few weird problems in his new system and I have exhausted all the things I know to try.
System:
Asus A7A266
XP 1700
1 of 512 mb crucial SDRAM
GF3 ti-200
Audigy
10/100 nic
Win98 SE (DX8)
* Everything has the latest drivers inlcuding the mobo and BIOS
The problem:
In games like Max Payne and Return to Castle Wolfenstein there are momentary pauses where the action stops and then picks up again. The pauses last from 1-2 seconds and occur about once per half hour. It almost always happens during a sound. Next problem is when I load up Battle Realms, the mouse (intelli mouse Exp) will either not work at startup or soon lose control after the game has started. When exiting back to the desktop the mouse is lost the OS (Win98 se) now as well and only a reboot gets it back. Like I said, I have tried just about everything I know to try including the latest Ali drivers and Award BIOS update. My next step is trying a new mobo. All 3 games have been patched with their latest patch.
Heat is definitely not an issuse as temps have been pretty reasonable.
Anyone have any ideas?
