Weird problem with my GeForce 4

Hullo,

I am having a weird behavior with my Albatron GeForce 4 Ti4200P Turbo video card. First of all, I have overclocked my video card to 300MHz (Core) and 650MHz (Memory). So far, a game have never crashed and it's really smooth.

The problem occurs in the 3DMark2001SE's Nature Game Demo Benchmark. It kind of skips frames every second or so, if you know what I mean... It is really hard to explain the behavior, but it's not as smooth as it should. If I change the clock settings (dropping the Core or Memory of 1MHz) of my video card (with Coolbits) and then rerun the Nature Demo, it's smooth as it should! I can even just drop 1MHz, put back the 1MHz, test the config and rerun the Nature Demo (Vid. Clocks at 300/650) and it will be smooth.

I don't know what could be the problem. I have tried to uninstall my Video Drivers and then reinstall them, it works very fine, on every reboots, UNTIL I fix the 60Hz problem (with RivaTuner RC12). When I fix the Refresh Rate (1024x768, 75Hz), I get the not-so-smooth-thing in Nature. I have everything possible activated, FastWrites, SideBand Adressing, AGP4x.

Someone can help me? If you need more informations, feel free to ask!
I want to know what is the problem!

Thank you!

I'd just like to point out, you will get WAY better FPS if you go to the 40.xx series of detonator drivers.
on my 1800+ rig with a Ti4200 i only scored 9,500 with those, when i switched to the 40.xx I got over 10,100. (at all default clock speeds)

also sometimes, cards performance dwindles if it's overclocked too far.
half the time the overclocking sweet-spot is NOT at it's max.

cheers 🙂

Hullo,

I know I'll get better performance with the 40.xx drivers, but I won't use them until they are official (and they have problems with UT2k3, I've heard). But, I have forgotten to say something in my post, even if I remove the OverClock settings, reboot and try the Nature Demo, I'll get the not-so-smooth-thing... So, I have discarded the O/C... As I said, what is important is that I have the problem right after fixing the 60Hz Refresh Rate problem in WinXP. I reboot and *BANG*, the not-so-smooth thing happens. I don't want to play at 60Hz, so, I *have* to fix that.

Bye

That's funny. I put in the 40.72 (think it's 72) and the first game I installed was UT2K3, ran totally mint. and got nearly 700 more 3dmarks. JUST FROM THE DRIVERS. I would use them.. you don't need the certified drivers, these ones I have run really awesome with UT2003.
