Weird Problem with fan speed

If i connect One of the side panel 92mm Sunon fans (3 pin) to the MOBO.. it spinds faster than if i connected to 4 pin connecter.. WHY IS THAT?
 
Is the 4 pin connected to the 12 volt feed? meaning red from fan goes to yellow of the systems molex connector. If you didn't have to install the wire it should be. Voltage will make the fans turn different speeds.

well.. the 4 pin is connected to the 12volt from power supply... yeah.. that's true... i bought a CONVERTER from 3 to 4 pin from Fry's so that i can connect it to the power supply.. i think that might be the culprit...
