weird problem with drivers?

I'm currently got XP on one partition and Vista on the other, and I've been trying to get my Vista up and running. I installed the ATI Catalyst drivers for Vista and (although it took FOREVER) they installed fine. Then I moved onto the audio drivers for my mobo's AC'97 onboard audio. Since I can't get my network functioning on Vista yet, I downloaded them on XP, burned them to a CD, and extracted them in Vista. I began installing them, everything was fine. Then right when the "bar" is in the middle, it said "installing AC'97 drivers," fine, then a second later it said "Removing AC'97 drivers," then the entire installation went away.

Any idea what happened here? Is this a problem others have been having?

from the few times that ive installed it, for ac97 hardware unless the chipmaker has specific vista drivers, ie realtek or createive for the cards, you will have to use windows update to get the proper driver. which means you will have to get your network up and going.

Meh, I'll just wait till we move next month and I'll have a direct connection to the Internet rather than going wireless.
