I have an A7V-133 board with on-board Promise ATA-100 controller. I have five IDE devices setup like this:
Promise controller:
IDE1: Quantum 40Gb hard drive (Primary
IDE2: Zip 100 drive (Primary) (attaching this to the promise controller was the only way I could get rid of the transfer speed problems I had)
Normal on-board IDE:
IDE1: Maxtor 30Gb hard drive (Primary)
IDE2: Creative DVD drive (Primary)
Creative CD-RW drive (Slave)
The problem I am having is with my hard drive LED being permanently lit when all these devices are connected. No amount of swapping and arranging these drives gets the drive hard drive light working. This problem disappears when I remove the Maxtor 30Gb hd from the setup, with the CD-RW and DVD on separate channels. However, even if I keep the CD-RW and DVD on separate channels, with the Maxtor drive attached, the hard drive light stays permanently lit. To add further confusion to the situation, the drive light flashes normally when I use any version of Windows 9x, whereas Win2000 and Linux both insist on keeping the drive light lit all the time.
This may sound like a bit of a miniscule problem, but it's annoying not being able to have the hard drives access light working properly. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
