Weird problem when playing games.

Ok my computer just recently started doing something really weird. When I am playing games, well its done it other times but mostly during games, it will just start to lag really really bad. The sound stops working right, it just skips really bad and i just hear weird sounds of what its supposed to be. It slows down nearly to a stop when this happens too. When it starts the only way it goes away is to restart the computer. I thought it was a cooling problem but the hottest i have ever seen my processor is 120 and the case in the 90s, and my friend has had at least 20 degrees higher in each and his never does it. It could be heat at a more specific part, but what part would this be? And do you think ill need a new part or is it probobly just heat. When i restart it will usually do it again really fast if i dont let it sit for a while too, so i think it is heat, i just need to know what part it could be. I can list my specs if i need to, but id have to find them and i dont think it really matters, but if so tell me. Thanks for any help.

I'm not perfectly sure but I don't think it's heat.

Are there any applications running in the background? Check your Startup menu and what is launched at startup.

That's where I'd start...

there isnt really anything in the background running, just the virus scan. But i used to be able to have AIM running with kazaa playing music at the same time as i played a game and it didnt lag a bit.

I would turn off virus scan.

Is your video card overclocked by chance? I have had similar problems with my GF4 when it was overclocked too much.

How much RAM?

512mb ram, not overclocked. I dont want to turn things off to fix it, cuz thats not fixing it. Even if it works like that, it should work with the virus scan/AIM/music all on like it did before, and i never changed a thing in it. it just started to mess up and has been doing it more and more lately.
