weird problem I am having with mouse

I know this is not the right place to ask.. but I have tried asking in the tech support forum but no help..
anyhow I am running a celeron 850 with windows 2000, office xp and norton anti virus 2001. It's a tangent computer that my work purchased from www. tangent.com.
Whenever I run MS word or excel my mouse cursor would disappear in the text area and reappear when you move them to the tool bar area. So in order for me to locate my cursor in the text area I have to right click the button so a properties box would show up and from there I could kind of estimate how far my cursor have to move to the place I want. As you can see it's VERY annoy. This is what I have done...

removed mouse and reinstalled it in safe mode.
reinstall the driver (IntelliMouse 3.01 downloaded from microsoft)
reformat the hdd and reinstall the windows, office and anti-virus
updated the service packs for both windows and office xp.
change the mouse setting at control panel.

what else can I do? whenever I do something mentioned above the cursor would work for coupel logons and then back to its tricks again. It's driving me crazy!!! has anyone encounter such problem?

sounds like your puter doesn't load up all the driver all the time....seriously, this is weird and I am hoping someone else can help.

i have trid changing color of hte cursor I even made it bigger.. but same problem .

any more suggestion?
