This is a problem I haven't seen before. I can't copy files to USB drives. I always get the disk is write-protected message, although the flash drives I use doesn't even have write protection feature/button. It happens with all drives and in all USB ports. The flash drives are fine and work beautifully in other machines. The funny thing is that it the case with all machines in my home network ! It started with my main machine but it later spread to others.

When it first started, I used the 2nd or 3rd machine in my home network to copy files to removable media. This was a temp work round. Now, I can't even do that !

Could this be related to my router? How? I don't think it is a virus or a malware. I made sure the disks I use are fine. I also followed instructions to disable write protection found in here:

http://www.thewindowsclub.com/the-disk-is-write-protected-windows

but it didn't change anything.

I disconnected one computer from the network, restarted it and tried copying but it didn't work.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Just to emphasize, there is no problem with the flash drive/drives i'm using. They work fine in different machines. The problem is the with computer itself. Anything I plug into it I'll be not able to write to it, I can only read.

It may be a windows issue of some sort. Have you tried a linux boot CD on one of your computers? If it works in linux, you know it is a windows setting/software issue.
