Weird problem because of a power outage....

Well this is a bit weird, I had my computer on with Xfire logged on and a website open with Zonealarm firewall on. I left to the mall and came back and noticed my computer was off, so i asked myself what the heck is going on...So then I found out we had a power outage and thats why it was off, so I turned it back on and right after the Windows screen, instead of going into the login screen it went to a blue screen and gave me a error, which i don't know exactly and said the system is restarting and kept doing that...Then I went into the BIOS and exited, maybe to restart things and BAM I was able to get into Windows. That night I played WoW for about 2-3 hours with no problems. Today I boot up and I go to a website and BAM I get a blue screen saying that its dumping Physical memory, so i restart and once i get into Windows i open up a website and gives me the same error again...

So I thought to myself, to repair Windows with my XP disc, so i did just that and I did it with the second screen, the correct way. It did the copying files and restarted and then went and starting installing devices etc...But it froze up at 34 minutes, and it did that like the next 3-4 times i tried. So then I just said screw it mate and reformatted. Once I reformatted, Windows installed just fine without a hitch. I'm in my desktop now and installed a few things and I have restarted quite a few times without any problems.

Now my main concern is, what was going on? Was it something on my hard drive that was really corrupt and thats why Windows couldn't repair? Because it worked just fine with a reformat...Just like to hear your suggestions and want to know if I should worry at all.

The rig I am having issues with is my SLI Gaming Rig #2...Luckily my first rig was off at the time...

Please help, thanks mate!

You probably had some corrupted files on your harddrive, which the reformat fixed.

Windows XP repair is a joke. I have yet to see it do anything useful.

Yep, it looks like something was corrupt on your hard drive.

Next time, try booting to Recovery Console (when you start installing XP, it's the first option) and typing 'chkdsk -r'. Or maybe it's /r. That'll do a very thorough scan of your C: and should fix any errors on it.

I learned the chkdsk command after I did the reformat, but its a good thing to know. Thanks for your comment guys, I figured it was corrupted data on my hard drive, which sucks. Time to invest in a UPS.
