Weird Problem: all sounds will play except MP3's

My friend has a computer, just built for her.

AMD 900
128 megs of PC 133
ATI 8 Meg Vcard

Every sound except 1 works on her computer i.e, AOL noises, ICQ uh-oh's, error beeps, windows start-up, the "click" when web pages change.

MP3's will not play.
We tried using windows mplayer 2, winamp, & MMJ, and the computer freezes each time. We've tried various MP3's. none work.

any ideas?
I just installed all the latest drivers for the SBLive, mobo, vid card.

You might want to contact Creative Support, I didnt find any solution for this from their knowledge base.

Try Win MP7.1. Even then you must make sure MP3 is on the list of formats to play. There are check boxes under Options, Formats.

Uninstall the card and drivers then reinstall.

Try a different sound card if you have one.
