Weird phone call on my cell

Ok, so yesterday while at work, I received a phone call from a "private" number. I answered, and the person calling said that I had qualified for a grant from the federal government (oh joy). He went on with an entire script about how the money was offered by the government, wouldn't need to be paid back, etc. He then said he needed to verify some information with me; he already had my phone number (obviously), address, name, etc., which was a bit disturbing. He then said that the money would be issued directly to my checking account, and so he needed the account number.

This is the point at which I hung up.

Just wondering if anyone else has received/heard of calls such as this?

tell him this:

"Wow that is AWESOME!! thank you I am so excited! But I don't have a checking account. Since you already have my address, go ahead and send me a check! Thanks, I'll be waiting for it, bye! <click>"

Yep, it's on the list. Well, it should be on the list, anyways.

It is illegal for telemarketers to call a cell phone. Just tell them what they called and they hang up real quick.
On the other hand, that call doesn't sound like a telemarketer, more like a scam to get your account number, so any laws about calling a cell or the national do not call list wouldn't do a thing, they will still call.
