Weird PC problem, hangs periodically when starting windows.

Hello Guys,

I have an odd issue with my PC lately. It's been relatively problem free for the two years that I've had it, but lately I've been hit with a strange issue. When I start it up in the morning, it always needs several hits of the reset button before it can get into windows. It keeps getting stuck on either the

"Logging in" or "Welcome" screen.

I am running Windows 7 Pro 64bit. PC has a Core i5 3.2ghz, Gigabyte motherboard, 16GB of ram.
I am running windows off a 320GB Samsung SSD with 15GB of free space at the moment.

Superantispyware does not find any virus or malware and PC works flawlessly once it actually manages to start.
But smacking the Reset button at every boot is getting annoying.

That is not enough free space on that drive.. Minimum should be 1/10th total drive space or 32gb..
Anything less? you're asking for trouble..

It is a microsoft product. It is working as intended. Seriously, every pc I've ever used regularly has done that more than once.

Yeah, I would be freeing up space...wouldn't like those numbers at all.

I wonder if he is running a page file?

What's a page file?

I know free space isn't ideal, but this issue only started recently, and this is actually more free space than I normally had. I've ran no problems with as little as 4GB space on the drive before I cleaned it up.
I am running the latest firmware.

Something else is causing this.

No its the drive. You need at least 20% free on the system drive for ideal performance.

RiiiIIIIiiiight. Problems like these typically go beyond the OS, and down into some layer of hardware. I've seen it with an SSD firmware revision personally. Once updated, the issues were few and far between, but if they did occur it was the board not detecting the drive which has nothing to do with the OS.

So the drive was working fine with less space, but this new problem that just started happening is because I don't have enough space, even though I have more free space than I had before?

And 20% is a lot, I won't have room for anything if I need to keep that much space free.

But I am sure it's something else, maybe the SSD or the motherboard is failing.

Why would I go trough all the trouble if that's not the cause of the issue? I've had 40GB free on the drive, and it would do the same thing.
And whats the point of an SSD, if I'm gonna install my games/software on a secondary Hard Drive to run off? I'm not even using much of the SSD for storage, I have a 1TB WD drive for that, it's (the SSD) mostly loaded with games.

Second, sure Seagate drives are cheap, because they'll only last a couple of weeks 😛
From experience, I've found out that the only drives worth buying are Enterprise or Black class WD's because everything else is only made to last less than a year.

Anyway, I figured it out.
Had way too many icons on the desktop, I guess it was hanging while loading windows because it was loading my desktop in the background. Got rid of most of the icons and voila, normal start up times.

Thanks anyway for the suggestions.
