I recently got a LPextor 12x10x32s burner connected to my adaptec 2940uw adapter. the problem I initially got was this: When burning a disc (with ezcd creator dlx, cdrwin etc) it will go all the way to 100% but the programs will hang when trying to close the cd. At that point I reboot, run whatever burning sw and it will tell me there is an open session and do I want to close it. I answer yes, the session closes and the cd is ok. I thought maybe this was an OS issue (I tested under WinME) so booted into Win2k and got the same thing. I thought maybe it was a termination issues so I went through all the scsi card options and got the same problem. So as a last resort, I started fiddling around with my BIOS settings and at some point it all came together and worked! Yay I thought, but a couple of days ago I was tweaking my BIOS settings to get AGP 4x working and the damn cd burner started acting up again! Could soemthing in my BIOS be affecting my ability to burn cds? It seems that it has to do with AGP stuff in BIOS but I cant narrow it down. Any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated. My specs are below:

P3 650e
ASUS P3v4x
2 sticks of 256 meg ECC memory (512 total)
ASUS 6800 DLX geforce ddr
2 Apaptec 2940UW scsi
SBlive
3com NIC
All my HDs are in an external scsi chassis

I have no IRQ conflicts and everything seems to work fine. I am using the latest proven drivers for everything. Its just some BIOS setting that affects burning cds.

Check the "Pci latency time", or even the "byte merge" option they both control the pci bus
that holds the scsi controller....perhaps its one of them....only things that comes to mind...

Is adaptec directcd istalled and running at startup? Sometimes DirectCD does not play well with other burning software.

ewwww. I hate directcd. Nope, I just have ezcd creator dlx pathced to 402e to recognize my plextor. Its a damn weird problem. I have to keep all my bios settings at their default for this thing to work. I had a similar problem at work with an HP 9340i drive in a new compaq system. But with compaqs, you cant tweak the bios much. Downgrading to winnt40 resolved that issue but at home its WinME and win2k. Thanks for the help guys.
