Weird Outlook Issue

Just had a weird thing happen with OutlookXP where it downloaded all previously received/viewed emails that were sitting in an inbox.

It is connecting to the server via Pop3, and Outlook is set to leave a copy on server and remove when emptied from deleted items.

Is this a corrupt .pst file issue? How can i fix this & prevent it from occuring again?
