Weird noise from motherboard?

Hello, I just installed a new motherboard, and it works!

Except, when it is first firing up, it makes this really weird noise -- it's hard to describe -- like a higher-pitched scratchy sound. Almost like the teacher in Charlie Brown that talks but you just hear "wuahwuahwuahwuah", except higher-pitched and scratchy.

It only does this for a brief moment, then goes away -- any ideas what that means?

Kind of like a hissing sound?

Not much you can except turn your speakers down if you get it during boot. :(

If you get it Windows though, you can help reduce it by muting your inputs :)

Hmmm, no not a hissing sound. And it isn't coming from the speakers (they aren't even plugged in). It's coming from the motherboard itself -- it's an ASUS P4T533-C. It sounds like it's TRYING to talk, but it just comes out scratchy and inaudible.

Oh!

You just need to turn off the ASUS POST Reporter? in your BIOS :)

Or you could hook up some speakers and hear what it's actually saying :)

Normally it's just:

"System completed power on self test. Computer now booting from operating system."

or if you're experimenting it will tell you what's failed.

"Computer failed due to CPU overclocking", "Memory test failed ", etc

Enjoy!

LOL - I switched the jumper on the motherboard, and hooked up the speakers, and viola!

You were absolutely right. Just telling me system booting was completed. Thanks a lot, JustAnAverageGuy!

Welcome. Come back any time :)

That's not bad. 7 minutes for an answer. ;) You'd be lucky to get answer in 7 DAYS from Asus :/
