Weird Network Problem

So I just got my new Neo4 and 3500+, put the system together, loaded XP Pro onto my new 0+1 Raid, get all necessary drivers installed and think everything is working smoothly. I then proceed to get online and it works great for about 5-10 minutes until all of a sudden, I cannot go anywhere, it gives me the dreaded cannot find page error. When I reboot, same thing happens, I enjoy the speedy university connection for a few minutes and then it is gone. To add to this, even with firefox and ie down, I can get 0% packet loss when pinging google. Also, I started a download in firefox, during the download the usual thing happened, but then the download continued until complete. Please respond to help save the new system from being crushed by my frustration!

Do you have fireqall and anti-virus installed. That is an absolute must if you're on a university connection.

So, "XP Suxs" because you have an unstable config or problem with your network setup?

I have tried the firewall enabled and disabled without any success. I just tried ending processes which I do not recognize and the internet started working when I shut down something called wntsf.exe. Anyone have a clue what the task does?

As far as the windows comment, I am a linux guy and would love to stay as far away from windows if possible. Its just my classes require programs in windows and I dont like the insecurity of an emulator. I think it is kind of ridiculous that an operating system worth $300 can have troubles with something so simple as a network connection when I can easily get it to work reliably on a free os. Just my .02.

If I were you, I might contact the university IT dept...do you have a static IP or are you DHCP? It sounds like an IP Address conflict to me...
