WEIRD NETWORK PROBLEM!

OK...so I have three computers on a wireless network. I am using linksys stuff. I have cable internet connected through a router. All three can browse the internet but only two of them can access eachother (in my network places). I can share files, transfer back and forth, etc. perfectly on these two but the third one canot. Here's the weird part: I can see the computer in my network places..it actually shows up but when I try to access it, it says that "I don't have permission" eventhough I enabled simple file sharing and basically have no security settings. I have successfully pinged the estranged system with both the working computers. My only thought is that it is somewhat far away but if they can ping it well, shouldn't it be able to be accessed? Thanks and hopefully you can help me out! (PS: I'm running XP pro on all machines....should be simple right???!)

If you used the ?Evil Wizard?, set the sharing Manually.

Double Click on My Computer, it will show Local Hard Drive C:\

Right Click on the Drive and choose Sharing and Security.

Choose the Sharing Tab and set it to your liking.

=============================================

If this is not helping, you have to enlist your max capacity to be patient and look over all the Network Settings.

Log to this page it has a lot of links to instructions to Windows Network Setting and Sharing.

Link: Installing & Sharing

OK...but here is the weird thing. Why can two system see eachother and interact AND see the misbehaving third system but the mean third system can't even access the MSHOME workgroup???

This is the classic workgroup browsing issue that comes up frequently. I see Jack has already provided you with a good link, it should get you going.

OK...so I should follow the XP non simple file sharing method? Could it be because of the distance from the other two systems? I mean, anyway the systen that is far away could not see the other two due to the distance??

it has nothing to do with the physical configuration, its all in the software, read through that link a couple of times, should have all you need

Also, any reason why the simple sharing method (rather not do this cause of security) wouldn't work? I have it set and enabled on all systems but only two of them (the ones that are close together) can share files with each other. And by the way, the system far away has great reception and speed so I don't know why they couldn't see it on the desktop.

FWIW, NETBEUI is frequently my Silver Bullet for browsing issues. The shaky computer browsing scheme provided by Microsoft Windows frequently breaks down, NETBEUI is a simple crutch that solves the problem many times. :)

I just wanted to thank everybody who helped me out. I installed a netbuie on all systems and I didn't even have to restart and it works perfectly! The AnandTech Forums do it again! Now if I only could have my wireless usb adapter to stop signing me off... =)
