Weird Network problem, need help!

okay guys, i have a weird problem here. I just bought 3 linksys 100 base nics, and a linksys 100 base switch, this is for a 3 computer network (2 win98, 1 win2k). 1 system being a server/internet proxy, on windows 98. problem is none of the computers can see each other. all the cards are installed, drivers work, main computer on ip 192.168.0.1 and subnet of 255.255.255.0 all have ms client installed and tcp/ip and file sharing enable. also all are on the same workgroup. and the 2 clients are on ip auto detect and dhcp enabled.
nope still can't see each other. I manually set the ip on the client too, still don't work.
i know the cable I made works because it lights up on the card and the switch . I have tried the same cable(s) on other computers which work.

now when I plug in a computer with another brand network card (with the same switch and same cable), into the network, it sees the server just fine. They both see each other fine. yet, when I plug back in the computer with the linksys card, it dont' work. what gives????
need help!

i doubt I am unlucky enough to have 3 bad network cards.

For troubleshooting, put static IPs on all of them and see if they can ping one another. No ping indicates hardware problem, and if cables are OK it's likely the NIC is not properly installed.

Did you use the driver out from the box?? If you download the driver from Linksys, be sure you download the right version of driver for your card, since they go at least 4-5 differnet versions of LNE100TX card which all use different driver.

When you say you can't see them...

are you pinging the machines? or just trying to browse with Network Neighborhood (places)? If it is the latter... make sure that you have something shared, or your machines will not show up on the network. If you already know this, disregard this message. 🙂

i cant ping any computers, none can ping each other. all file sharing is enabled and something is shared as well...

however when i plug a different computer with a different network card, it pings fine, network works fine. just the 3 linksys boards refuse to work together..

I have been using Linksys LN100TX cards and Linksys switch for a long time and never had a problem. As Kw7 said you might have a wrong driver installed. Go Linksys web site and download the newest driver for your card, then try it again. On your Win98 machine you can use winipcfg (ipconfig on Win2K) to check the status of your cards.
