Weird network issue.. can I fix without reformatting?

I had a faulty motherboard a while ago (bad DIMM slots), and since then, my OS is just not the same. For some reason, whenever my machine is trying to connect to my POP3 server, my browser refuses to connect anywhere. It will just sit there, trying to connect, until the POP3 connection is finally made. And that POP3 connection always takes time, at least 6-10 seconds to connect. I know it's not a network problem, because other machines on the LAN can connect immediately, and they function normally.

Anyone ever heard of something like this? I'm this close to reformatting this thing.. I've about had it.

I assume that you have a build in LAN?

Try to uninstall the driver for that under the Manage section (in My Computer - Decive Manager)
restart & it should try to auto-install the driver as 'Found New Hardware'.

If that doesn't help - do it again & cancel the auto-install & pop in the Mobo CD and re-run the driver inatsllation from that.

if your running windows xp sp2 there are 2 things that can help which will rebuild the network stack.
1) start -> run -> cmd -> click ok
in the command windows type

2 ) netsh int ip reset c:\windows\iprest.log

hit enter and wait a bit may come back right away or in a few moments.
then

3 )netsh winsock reset

hit enter and reboot
see if that works out any better, if on xp or xp sp1 then the first will only work but not the 2nd as it was added in the sp2

Wow. thanks, guys. I've really learned a lot in the past couple weeks on software/hardware troubleshooting. I'll give this a shot tomorrow or tonight & see how it goes..

What MB is it? I know that Biostar had an issue with the built in LAN Chips on the Nforce6100 and Tforce6100 mainboards...
