Weird net problem....

Ok, the minute Comcast switched over to their new network I could no longer access www.hardocp.com or speedguide.net. I thought it was my linksys router so I plugged my cable modem into my NIC card and tried it that way. That didn't work either... I called my friend down the street from me(who also has comcast)and asked him to try the sites as well and he couldn't access them. I called another friend one town over who also has comcast and he could not access them either. We didn't try to access them from bookmarks and I even pinged the sites and we tried the IP addresses instead....that failed as well. Now, in the name of research,(I'm gonna catch some flak for this one...)I tried some "adult oriented sites". Both www.al4a.com and www.drbizzaro.com could not be accessed. I also tried to access both of those sites with their IP addresses instead and I ended up with the same result. I'm assuming that ISP's have no right to block access to websites so that couldn't be the problem. Anyone know what could be causing this?

Sounds like Comcast is having DNS server troubles. I'll check with my brother who has Comcast and see what he comes up with. Contact them and see if you can get some revised DNS server IP's and at least make sure they are aware of the problem...........

But why would a DNS problem only effect hardocp.com and speedguide.net? Every other site that I normally visit works fine.

DNS problems can be very erratic and make little sense. Call them up and see what they have to say about it. I have a feeling the problem will fix over the next week or two.

go to 128.250.247.72 .. thats hardocp .. if you pinged the IP address and it didnt work, its not dns related .. its either something is wrong, or the webserver blocks icmp echo requests .. i would call the isp, but they would probably deny the whole thing and say its not their problem because you can get on the internet .. good luck ..

Hehe, thanks for the info neural. I knew that calling Comcast tech support would just piss me off because they would try to blame the websites or, dare I say it, my flawless pooter ;) Anyway, I was able to ping hardocp(and speedguide as well)and that's the IP address I got. But when I tried to access it with the IP address it didn't work either. I ruled out my system as the cause when two of my friends had the same problem.(Who both have Comcast and multiple computers). I hoped this gets resolved soon.
