weird MMS issue between android and blackberry

I am on T-mobile running a mytouch3G 1.2 with cyanogen 6.1 nightly (froyo)
My dad is on verizon with his blackberry.

I can't send him picture messages. I have spent a few hours on the phone with both T-mobile and verizon. My wife and I are the only ones we know of where the pictures he receives are image placeholders with a red X in them. (wife has android also)
I can send to everyone else I know. He receives pictures from everyone he knows.

I'm stumped on this one.
any ideas are welcome!
