Weird memory leak in win98se...help!

Okay I've had this problem for quite some time now. I have one of those ram defraggers so I can keep track of how much ram I actually have left and when I need to free some up etc...anyways - it seems like I have some kind of BIG memory leak. I'll just be leaving my hd on idle and I'll watch my memory just drop slowly - it takes like 30 minutes for it to be totally out and I'm not even running anything!! And get this - when I run programs such as IE and mIRC my ram drops 20-30mb and I don't get it back when I close em. I know win98 doesn't have the best memory management but this is ridiculous. I run those virus scanners and they don't catch anything so I'm stumped..help me out on this one guys...

what do you have running in the background go to run and type in msconfig and turn of everything running at the startup tab but be sure to leave on explorer and systry then restart you system..... that should help i bet you have lots of stuff running in the background.

been there done that-
that's one of the first things that I did. I only have like 3 things load up at startup. Ahhh this is annoying!! It doesn't do it in win2k thank GOD!
