Weird Lion problem - stutters and slow

Hi! Have a 2008 iMac (core2duo 2.4, 24", 2 gig ram) that recently had a hard drive issue - click of death and crashes on Snow Leopard . I replaced the hd with a used hard drive I had sitting around and used the chance to upgrade to lion.

Now, whenever I do something mildly intense everything slows to a crawl - itunes stutters, flash is a slideshow.
what do you think it is?
1. Lion sucks
2.You need more ram
3. Your extra hard drive is bjorked too-replace it!

I'm mid job search so don't have a lot of time/money to experiment, should I get a new hd or ram?

I agree, it sounds like you have a hard drive problem rather than a software problem. I'm not aware of Mac OS X being picky about hard drives, but I guess the iMac is a special case due to temperature sensors?

It does sound like a hard drive problem. I would do a hard drive scan using third party tool such as GWScan or the like. Read Element Failure is pretty common on hard disks.
