Weird Left Speaker Problem

My cousin just told me his left speaker (Altec Lansings - 2.1 - Not sure exact model) will not produce sound. He has a Soundblaster PCI 128. He says the speakers are connected properly and he hooked up a generic set of speakers, and the left speaker on that set did not work either. Any Ideas? Thanks
 
I had a SB Live that did similar things. The right speaker plays about 80% lower than the left. Plugged the card into another system with a different set of speakers, same thing. Card worked fine for 2 years or so then started this silliness. Sounds like your cousin has a similar problem.
