Weird laptop screen

I own a ACER Travelmate 274 running WXP Pro. This morning after booting up normally, I tilted the screen forward 4 - 6 inches & the screen died.

On reboot it is normal until approx half way to the login screen (ie you can see the Windows XP Pro logo) and then just dies. The machine continues to boot.

If I boot in Safe Mode, the machine appears fine & the screen normal.

Also, if I attach an external monitor the machine boots happily in normal mode.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on here? Or suggested remedies?

Many thanks

That doesn't seem likely to me; for one, it wouldn't explain why no problems are encountered when in Safe Mode, since Safe Mode is mostly a boot with an extremely limited driver set. Second, if WinXP Pro is installed then it's also likely the notebook is relatively new.. there are plenty of 486 class notebooks out there that have opened and closed zillions of times with still very good LCD connections.

Since booting in Safe Mode doesn't cause any problems, I'm gonna go with this issue being either the driver or a refresh rate that was set mistakenly.. the tilted screen just being a fluke, unless you can duplicate the issue, which you haven't stated. Assuming the driver is at fault, re-install it, or better yet, download a more up-to-date version.
