Weird Laptop Issue

if i have a usb item connected when i shut the lid, i get a weird sound that sounds like feedback. it is a ibm t42.

any ideas? this has happend with gps receivers to flash drives. doesn't do it with pcmcia cards though.

Some laptops with XP as the OS have what is called USB leak. There is a patch to fix that, I believe - but the best thing to do is not leave any USB devices connected when powered down. You may find a small discharge taking place of your battery.
