weird keyboard / BIOS issues

I started having these problems after a MS update.

My onboard LAN stopped working. I thought that the onboard LAN had been disabled in BIOS settings. I am able to get to the BIOS via the keyboard but once I am in the BIOS, neither the keyboard or mouse work. Once Win 7 boots, the keyboard and mouse are fine but no ethernet adapter is found.

Did I somehow kill parts of my motherboard (Intel 975XBX2 /BadAxe2)? I am getting POST messages that a HDD is not working but they are fine in Windows. I guess I will unplug everything but the boot drive and go from there.

The only solution I have stumbled across is to unplug the PSU and remove the battery for 30 minutes and hope the default BIOS settings will reset the adapter.

The BIOS is up to date.

Update: I used a USB to PS/2 adapter and was able to use the keyboard in the BIOS. The LAN adapter is still missing so I'll try rolling the update back. Any other suggestions? I have tried a new cat5 cable.

So if your LAN is enabled in the BIOS and does not show in the Device Manager, you very well might have a fried lan. Could always get a PCI ethernet card and put in if you don't/can't warranty the motherboard.

giving it a shot tomorrow, thanks.

Final edit. A new NIC got me back up. I'm wondering if the USB port and the onboard LAN both got fried somehow. I've got a Corsair HX750 so I hope that's not the cause.
