Ok...here's the dealio.
Modems: Gateway (USR) Telepath ISA
Generic V.34 ISA
Installed either modem. Win 98SE auto detects on COM2.
Apparently the modem is not communicating with WIN98.
This is where the strange part comes in.
I checked the properties and it has two entries for the same modem.
Futhermore, when I checked the COM ports, it shows two COM1 and two COM2 ports.
I tried removing the 2nd entry, but when I rebooted it would autodetect it again.
For each modem I removed them from device manager, removed the com ports, then rebooted. I know both modems are good and have used the drivers for each with WIN98SE before.
Am I missing something...an IRQ conflict? How would I check the IRQ?
Could it be the ISA slot or is it another prob (somewhere) on the m/b?
Could it be software related?
I want to try a PCI modem as the next logical troubleshooting step, but I don't have one and would hate to buy one needlessly.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
