I'm repairing my OS after a major crash. It's a long boring story, but I finally got my W2K updated and running. However Norton System Works 2003 wouldn't work. I uninstalled it, used symclean and tried to reinstall.
For three tries the installation just stalled out at the start: "installing common microsoft files." I mean the CD stopped spinning, the progress bar was blank. Nada. After many minutes I would then use task Manager to end task, reboot, and try again.
The last time, and this is what's weird, I went on to something else and left the CD in the drvie. It starts whirring and then stops, starts, whirs a while. Nothing appears on the screen. Then, Zone Alarm says Windows Installer wants to access the internet. I wonder why and do a WHOIS on the IP which is 215.52.17.146 The WHOIS comes back that this is DoD Network Information Center. in Columbus OH. The OrgTechHandle is MIL-HSTMST-ARIN
I'm wondering what the Department of Defense has to do with my installing Norton System Works, or anything for that matter. Any ideas?
And if you have any ideas about how to get the installation working I'd appreciate that, too. The Symantec site had no joy. Thanks
