Weird Humming Noise

Hey guys, here in Memphis today the weather hasn't been too good - lightning, winds, etc. So I decided to unplug my PC in case of lighting or something similar (I've had a PC fried because of this). Well, right now it's calmed down a bit so I decided to turn on my comp. When I turn it on, I hear this really weird, low humming noise as opposed to the usual high pitched whir. It hasn't ever done this before. Also, since it happened (about 10 minutes ago) it hasn't done it since. Any suggestions on what this might be?

I'm betting on vibration. Squeeze the panels down and make sure everything's screwed in tight - a loose fan can rumble a whole case.

I'd go with Mercenary's assessment. Especially if you had to move your computer at all to unplug it.

On a different note, you should seriously consider a good UPS. Power events don't usually give warnings. $50 -75 that it will cost you for a decent one is cheap insurance for any rig. The best part is you can use it with any rig you might build in the future.

Man, why do you have to have some smart-ass remark like that? Is it really necessary?

Anyway, all is well now. Just had to screw a loose screw back in. Thanks.

I will also check into a UPS for my new rig that I'll be building for Xmas.

I was going to suggest a toy that runs on D batteries might be to blame but luckily it was just a screw.
