About a week ago my honda accord made a hissing type sound that sounds like sounds that comes from AC's in older cars occasionally. I thought nothing of it. I do not notice anything wrong with the car(drives swell). It appears like the hissing sound originates to the rear of the vehicle though.

It's not a constant sound, it comes and it goes, sometimes disappearing for 20 minutes or more but always returning. If I turn up the radio it does not bother me, but annoys the crap out of me when the radio is off/turned down. I'm not sure exactly where it is coming from because it does not happen all the time, typically when I can't get out to check it. It happens whether the AC is on or off, braking or accelerating...no particular time when it happens, it just does...

any ideas on what it could be?

Most cars today are pretty much reliable. Sometimes people get duds or they push their car harder than normal.
From what I've seen two people can go out. Person 1 buys a Honda Accord, Person 2 buys a Chevrolet Impala. They drive their cars the same, treat them the same and guess what, have the same approximate amount of repairs. There are probably a few dud makes of cars out there but for the most part no matter what you buy it'll need the same repairs as any other car.

Anyways for Nitemare, a car expert would know far better than any of us. My guesses which could be quite off are things like hole in muffler, loose seal, or small hole in the floor of the car. I'd say if you can, drive with someone in the back seat and see if they can track it down while you drive.
