ok. i actually have two issues. i will ask here on AT and then figure out if i need dell support.
my laptop is set for 'always on' ... i also disabled hibernation completely and when you close the lid of the laptop, it's set to "do nothing"
when i close the lid of my laptop and reopen it within the first 20 seconds of closing it, my laptop goes into a strange 'hibernation' phase. it is not actually hibernating at all. when i remote into the computer when it's in this 'hibernation' mode, the resolution is much smaller but it is fully functional. and when i press Fn+F7 (crt/lcd), the LCD comes back, full-sized.
i thought that when i closed my LCD, the computer was featuring itself on an alternate monitor because this has a GeForce 7900 GS card that supports dual displays. when i went into Display and clicked on "Identify," however, i saw a "1" which means that the computer was referring to the current display as the only display that's connected. so this is really strange.
the other issue is actually that the desktop restores itself if i wait longer than 20 seconds (so i don't have to press Fn+CRT/LCD)! when i close the laptop and i reopen it beyond this 20 second limit, i notice that my laptop LCD resolution changes (which is something i noticed before, but this is more apparent because my windows, which are sized, become shrunken to fit within the resolution). this is an issue i've encountered on every single laptop i've owned and the omega drivers fixed it (they don't in this case; they actually don't work and the nvidia drivers by dell are the best apparently). it is very annoying and i'd love for a long-term solution to exist. all i want to do is close my laptop and not have the resolution change.
so my questions, with all this background to consider, are:
1. why is the laptop doing this "hibernation" thing? how do i prevent it? why does it only happen in the first 20 seconds and not thereafter?
2. why does the resolution change when i close the LCD and how can i change that?
thanks in advance.
