Weird HD problems with a new mobo, help!

I'm upgrading an old p3 450mhz with a new 2ghz P4 on a Abit BD7-RAID motherboard and its having some trouble detecting the hd's

there are two disks, one 20gb thats set to primary master and one 8gb set to primary slave.

Problem is that if I have only the 20gb connected the bios wont detect it but it detects it when both disks are connected.

Any ideas??
