So I am trying to get info off my gf's old hard drive. She had an HP dv9000 which had the motherboard overheat issue so it is basically toast. The hard drive is sata. Unfortunately I am on an iMac, so I cannot hook it up to this. I have an older computer lying around, it was my parents old computer. I think it is an amd sempron something or other. It has sata drives, but the hard drive that is in there now is ide. It boots into xp and works. When I try and hook up the sata drive, it keeps trying to boot off the sata which obviously throws me into boot errors. I tried to set it manually in the bios, but it keeps taking priority over the ide.
I don't have any sata drives lying around that I can put a quick linux OS on, or I would do that. Is there anything I can do?
