Weird graphics card phenomena

While playing games, my monitor will go into standby as if it lost signal from the graphics card, then come back. When it comes back my FPS is almost cut in half and remains that way until I restart my computer. What I think is happening is that the graphics card is somehow going into power save mode and getting stuck there. I have tried all kinds of different drivers and the problem still persists. Has anyone else experienced this issue with nvidia hardware?

i7 920
EVGA X58 SLI LE mobo

Monitor the temps on the video card. When the monitor blacks out than comes back, it is likely caused by recovery. Check the health report from windows too.

Temps are perfectly fine. I have seen a video driver recovery before and this is nothing like that. No errors show up at all.

Perhaps it's a power supply issue.

List your exact power supply, and any overclocks you have.

CPU is at a mild OC of 3.0 ghz.

GPU is not OC'd.
